Got a copyright claim? Here's how to clear it.
Every track you download includes a license certificate. You can use it to resolve YouTube copyright claims yourself in a few minutes.
What is a copyright claim?
A copyright claim happens when an automated system thinks the audio in your video matches a track owned by someone else. It is not a strike, and it usually doesn't take your video down — but it may divert ad revenue or block your video in some regions.
Why might it happen?
YouTube's Content ID system is fully automated and sometimes makes false matches — for example, when generic instrumental music sounds similar to another track. The claimant is usually a third party, not us.
How to dispute the claim — step by step
- Open YouTube Studio and go to your video.
- Click on the copyright claim listed in the Restrictions column.
- Click "Select Action" and choose "Dispute".
- When asked for a reason, choose:"I have a license or written permission from the proper rights holder to use this material."
- Paste your license details into the description box (template below).
- Submit the dispute. YouTube will forward it to the claimant.
Copy-paste template
This music is licensed from GameSound Studio. I have permission to use it. License ID: [PASTE_YOUR_LICENSE_ID] Verification: [PASTE_YOUR_VERIFICATION_LINK]
Replace the bracketed parts with the License ID and verification link from your downloaded license PDF.
Important note
We do not register our music in Content ID. However, third parties may incorrectly claim content. This system gives you the proof needed to resolve it. We do not handle disputes on your behalf — but the license certificate is everything you need.
Lost your license PDF? Anyone can re-verify it at /verify/<your-license-id>.
